To receive our NEWSLETTER click here March 19, 2004 C.T.M.A. VACANCIER RETURNS TO VERREAULT NAVIGATION FOR EMERGENCY REPAIRS Following damages sustained to the port side corner and it's stern door ramp, the NAVIGATION MADELEINE / GROUPE C.T.M.A. vessel C.T.M.A. Vacancier arrived at the Les Méchins federal wharf for emergency steel and mechanical repairs on the morning of Wednesday, March 10, 2004. The vessel, which was last in dry dock during the spring of 2003 for the installation of new bridge wings, was damaged when it struck the the wharf while fighting strong winds at Cap-Aux-Meules in the Magdalen Islands early last week. It is expected that repairs to the vessel, which will be completed alongside the the federal wharf, should be terminated by the 23rd of March.
DOUBLE-HULLING OF M/T ARCA CONTINUES There has been a flurry of other recent activities on site at the VERREAULT shipyard during the past month and a half. As reported in January, the SHELL CANADA-owned, V.SHIPS-managed bunker barge M/T Arca is currently undergoing the process of obtaining a double-hull. The majority of the critical steelwork on the M/T Arca was completed yesterday, and earlier today the bunker barge was floated out of the dry dock and moored at the adjoining federal wharf, where remaining work will continue alongside. The M/T Arca will return to the dry dock for remaining steelwork, as well as sandblasting and painting of it's newly installed second hull in the coming weeks.
C.T.M.A. TRAVERSIER MADELEINE IN FOR THREE WEEKS IN FEBRUARY Other activities, have included the arrival and departure of another GROUPE C.T.M.A. vessel, the Madeleine, over a three week period commencing in early February. The Madeleine was in dry dock for it's regular two year survey and maintenance in anticipation of a busy tourism season on it's run between the Magdalene Islands and Prince Edward Island. The Madeleine departed Les Méchins on February 21.
TRANS-ST-LAURENT AT VERREAULT FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE Immediately following the departure of the Madeleine, the space at the east end of the dry dock was occupied by the CLARKE TRANSPORT / TRAVERSE RIVIÈRE-DULOUP SAINT-SIMÉON ferry Trans-St-Laurent, which was in for regular maintenance work. The Trans-St-Laurent departed the dry dock yesterday.
SEAWAY MARINE TRANSPORT 'S ALGOPORT LAYED UP AT LES MÉCHINS Finally, layed up at the federal wharf since its arrival at Les Méchins in early February, is the 658 ft. SEAWAY MARINE TRANSPORT-operated self-unloader, Algoport. Topside work had already begun on the Algoport in anticipation of it's entry into the dry dock today. Work to be performed on the Algoport while in the dry dock includes steel replacement, as well as sandblasting and painting services.
