STERLING CARRIER DEPARTS LES MÉCHINS

LES CHANTIERS VERREAULT inc. is proud to present the newly constructed live fish carrying vessel, Sterling Carrier, constructed for PERSISTENCE SHIPPING ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia. After a relatively short, 9 month construction period, the vessel departed from Les Méchins on Monday, December 2, 2002, at 8:00pm.

A long standing practice of the Scandinavian fishing industry, the model for the live fish carrier is one that is both unique and revolutionary. Based on the Frøyfisk of Norway, the Sterling Carrier operates with a system of pumps and cranes, and is able to load and offload its cargo of live fish safely and efficiently into and out of it's 650m³ cargo area - an environment of a constantly refreshed supply of salt water.

Through the combined efforts of LES CHANTIERS VERREAULT and PERSISTENCE SHIPPING, this new and advanced technology will be introduced to Canada's West Coast. It is the hope of both companies to capture the attention of the North American aquaculture market with the construction and operation of this vessel and it's refined means of fish transportation.
